Africa joins the global community to promote ESD for 2030
Already two years have passed since high-level Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) at the African Regional Conference on ESD Towards 2030 on 26 May 2021.
The conference highlighted ESD activities in the African region and commitments of African Member States to the five action areas of education for sustainable development. Advancing policies through the mainstreaming of ESD.
Transform the learning and training environment through the adoption of an institution-wide approach. Building the capacity of educators and trainers. Empower and mobilize youth. A commitment was made to accelerate sustainable solutions at the local level.
So far, panelists from Cameroon, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal and Uganda have participated. Highlights included institutional responses to improve waste recycling challenges in local education settings, and capacity building of school administrators and teachers on how to integrate ESD into education.
